1st Team Claim Two in a Row

Denbigh Reach Mid Table Safety

Hawarden Park 132 all out

Denbigh 133-5

Denbigh win by 5 wickets

Denbigh made it two wins in a row on Saturday as they all but confirmed their safety in the Premier League with a 5 wicket victory over Hawarden Park at Ystrad Road. Having won the toss Hawarden decided to bat and both openers made solid starts to setting a total, it was the in form Alec Lewis who was to break the partnership claiming both Fawcett and Ducker before removing Tim Newhouse for a duck allowing Denbigh to begin to attack the middle order. Club leading wicket taker Stuart Griffiths was the man to do the most of the damage yet again as he ripped through the Hawarden line up claiming yet another 4 wicket haul from his 13 overs and going for just 34 runs. Overseas pro Marcus Adams was the man to close the innings chipping with the final wicket.

This left Denbigh chasing a very reachable total of 133 but unfortunately they were off to the worst possible start as openers Joe Clayton and Gwern Llwyd Owain were both dismissed cheaply. The home teams middle order all made good starts, John Lee Rowlands with 13, Thom Schrimshaw 19 and skipper Ben Wilcox-Jones 13 but this still left Denbigh with plenty of runs to get to reach their target. Having been quoted as saying that he intended to score more runs in the local press earlier in the day Overseas Pro Marcus Adams backed up his words with his highest score of the season as he and Darren Nixon 19* saw the home side home. Adams finished 55 not out and the home team can feel confident that they have now secured their Premier League safety and can now look to achieving as high a league position as they can in their first year in the Premier League.
